I am interested in exploring new ways of seeing and visually describing landscapes. Geological time scales are generally much longer than human time scales, a concept that both excites and intrigues me. Whether it is a volcanic eruption, an earthquake or coastal erosion, the effects are never far from our daily lives. Geologically New Zealand is a land of drama and strange contrasts. Juxtaposed with molten lava and dynamic thrusting and buckling earthquakes is the static calm of ancient forests, mountains and ice cool lakes that appear to have been here since the beginning of time. Much like the poet that loves that strange synergy that comes from combining opposite states, at times I loose myself in a world of visual opposites.
